Some thoughts about my life
Born in Bucharest, a year before the 1989 Revolution, Samir Mihail Vancica discovered his devoted passion for drawing and painting in his youth. He followed the “Nicolae Tonitza” High School of Visual Arts, where he learned the secrets of the craft with several teachers, among whom was the Univ. Prof. Nicolae Alexi.
He continued his artistic path at the National Arts University of Bucharest, from where he received his Painting BA under the guidance of the University Lecturers Alexandru Rădvan and Ion Anghel. During these years, as a member of the group of students “Corvus”, he participated in several artistic manifestations (such as the project “TEN”, developed in three stages, one of which was exhibited at the Caelum Gallery in New York) and attended several inspirational research trips abroad (Netherlands, Italy). Throughout his MA studies – coordinated by University Professor Petru Lucaci - Samir opened more towards the profound and hidden meanings of art and life, which he only conceives together. Three of the artworks that composed the practical part of his thesis, entitled “Unseen War”, can be viewed here. Since 2012, Samir works as an independent artist, exhibiting in galleries from Bucharest and abroad (Greece, Italy). In November 2014, at the invitation of Mr. Emanuele Horodniceanu, curator of the cultural events of Bistrot de Venise, Samir displayed his project In Principio in Venice, Italy. Presently, Samir lives and works in Bucharest, as well as in the village of the Prahova county Inotești, located at around 100 km from the capital, were he and his wife - visual artist Maia Ștefana Oprea - enjoy clean air, green sites, and a large and bright studio in the garden.
