MERKUR Gallery and the Cisnadie Fortified Evangelical Church invite you to the solo painting exhibition “Transfiguratio” by Samir Mihail Văncică. The exhibition can be visited from June 12 to August 28, 2016, in the north nave of the Fortified Evangelical Church. The opening will take place on Sunday, 12 of June 2016, at 12pm, after the Sunday ministry.
Samir Mihail Văncică (b. 1988, Bucharest) is a graduate of the National University of Arts in Bucharest, with BFA (Licence) studies (class of Lect. Univ. Dr. Ion Anghel, 2010), MFA (Master) studies (class of Conf. Univ. Dr. Peter Lucaci, 2012) and numerous painting exhibitions in the country and abroad (Italy, Greece, Kosovo, USA).
The painting exhibition "Transfiguratio" proposes to the viewer a reflection on reality - a reality composed of concepts and of instructions for using them, which we gain along with our development and education. The artist tries to overcome these notions that are hidden in images, forms and things, as well as the transfiguration of reality itself, by re-presenting the familiar framework - reduced, synthesised and recomposed of figurative elements which encloses an abstract structure, thus compressing and restraining the imaginative space to the painting’s frame.
The artist interrogates the validity and the truths of the current reality, conferring it within his artistic universe, only an instrumental and adjuvant purpose - a stairway to Heaven and eternity - towards finding Oneself. The certainty of our world can be dismantled in such a way that it reaches the void that constitutes it and which receives substance only through the Word.
The ecclesial setting that houses this exhibition transfigures the space through dialogue with the sacred, through prayer and sacrament, through the believer’s opening to the subtlety of the divine presence. Just as the church walls separate the epiphanic space - in which we heal and find ourselves - from the temporal world, (a space in which we consume and exhaust ourselves) , this exhibition tries in a similar way to offer to the viewer a time and a place of refuge and of rediscovering his aesthetic identity.
The paintings exhibited are part of a double personal project, arranged in two series of works: "In Principio", where the author seeks to create a bridge between his personal existence and the mysterious heavenly origin of mankind, and "Primum Mobile”, where the author investigates the non-spatial limit of the world and the interpenetration of the Heavenly Kingdom (the intelligible and intangible reality) with the entropic world.
